Marpac Yogasleep Whish Multi Sleep Sound White Noise Machine

I bought the product as I have a noisy neighbour. I selected ‘stream’ sound and am using that regularly. The unit is a great size for my bedside table. I turn it off when I get up during the night - don’t need to use timer. - love the option to turn up loud ! After suffering insomnia for 30 years exacerbated by shift work and menopause, sleep was more often than not elusive. When I did get to sleep and awoke during the night, that was it. I was wide awake and any chance of sleep had passed.
Now I drift off to sleep with the sound of the ocean and if I do wake during the night I drift almost immediately back to sleep, even if I get up for any reason. Without doubt the very best money that I have ever spent on myself. (Posted on 12/6/22 )

LOVE this machine, I am now buying my second since my toddler broke it but it's so worth it. Most sound machines are just baby sounds or different types of white noise, I love this one has some nice ambient, meditation style music/sounds which we found more calming when settling baby than any irritable white noise. Great machine, but the timer is 6 or 8 hours. Kids sleep 10-12 hours at night so unless you’re up for a feed or the toilet it will switch off then your bub will wake. It’s frustrating for me, so I’ve had to invest in another brand.

Sleep Solutions - the machine will by default run continuously by default – it has 2 timers an option to turn off either after 6 hours or 8 hours - to reset from timer mode - simply unplug the machine and plug it back in and it will again default to continuous play mode. (Posted on 12/24/21 )

I don't regret buying this, but it is not as good as hoped for me, and I would say it really depends on the individual if it works for them or not. First, like other reviews, there are big improvements they could make to this - changing the power source (though I could see this usb version useful for travel), making it be "lightable" at night, so you don't have to switch on a light in order to change any settings. The sound options are okay - I usually use the deeper white noise one, but still with earplugs on. If noise disturbs you regardless, you will probably still want to wear earplugs to drown out some of the whitenoise, while it attempts to drown out the original noise you don't like. We got this when our baby was just over 3 months old & it instantly helped her fall asleep at night! She’s slept through the night since she was 6 weeks old so I can’t comment there, but it’s definitely helped her even go down during the day. Quite disappointed that I haven’t had a positive experience with the white noise machine. The lowest volume is not low enough and have found if anything it keeps me awake as I’m listening to the sounds. I purchased two different options and this was by far the best. The fact it plugs in (to a USB port/charger) and doesn’t rely on the intermittent of a phone or tablet device makes it super user friendly for the less tech savvy. Fantastic for blocking out neighbourhood noise and barking dogs. A variety of different sounds and there is something for everyone. I like the whitenoise 1 and have it on at night on lowest volume. The design of the sound machine is lovely! It's very cute and small and the sounds have been very helpful to both my toddler and also my husband (who works nights and sleeps in the day).
The only gripes I have are that it can only work while plugged in. Now, this is on me because it actually states that in the description, but somehow I must have glossed over that and thought that the USB charger port means that it can be charged and then used later. But that's not the case, it literally has to be plugged in to work. So that means that I need to keep it near to the wall socket at night, and can't move it to be closer to my son while he sleeps. It means that he continuously wants to play with the electrical socket and pull it off the plug and yank on the cords. If I'd properly been aware of this then I wouldn't have bought this exact product and would have gone with something that can be charged to use later, or can take batteries. Having this for a toddler would be much better if it was portable and mobile.
The charger cord is also only 1-metre - so keep that in mind when planning where you want to use this device. We had to rearrange our room to have the little table near to the wall socket otherwise we would have had to keep the sound machine on the floor while in use. (Again, this was all written in the product description with: "Uses a USB cord plug in - no batteries required" but I mistook this thinking it was chargeable. But it's not.)

The other thing is that it says it has "16 sound options, including Marpac's signature white noise", and honestly, the 'dohm 1' and 'dohm 2' sound the same to me, and 'dohm 3' & 4 are all VERY similar. I can't tell how they're so special, nor what makes them different to the white noises. I feel like saying that there are 16 different noises is a bit of an over-exaggeration. The signature dohm sounds really just seem like generic white noise variations. The ocean noise is also very similar to a white noise. (you can find examples of all these noises on their website before you buy it) However, on a good note: the chimes, meditate, relax, restore and calm noises are all very different and all very very lovely. I sometimes use these while I'm working for background noise and really enjoy them. I also enjoy the 'rain' noise for sleeping and this seems to be the one my toddler prefers too.

My only other issue is that there is a 'timer 1' and 'timer 2' button which I believe are timers for 6 & 8 hours respectively, but there is no light on the machine (probably good for night-use I guess) but that means I can't tell which button has been selected nor when it was selected. So if I put our son to bed, and I push the 'timer 1' button, then I can look at my clock and know what time it will turn off. But if someone else turns on the sound machine and makes a selection then I will have no idea of knowing if it was set to 6 or 8 hours nor when it was set. This is slightly annoying to be honest.

So, one of the features of this explains: "Compact, sleek design fits in anywhere. You can even take your sleep environment with you to get a better rest on the road."... but I'm really not sure how someone could take this on the road. You'd have to make sure that while you're on the road you have a viable electric source, or could plug it into your laptop while you sleep.

So I gave this 3-stars. It's very pretty, some of the sounds are just lovely, and it does it's job - but it's also very inconvenient and you have no way of knowing which button you've selected after you've selected it. In hindsight, if I'd done a bit more research I don't think I would have bought this one. But, it does it's job and we're stuck with it now :) (Posted on 2/15/21 )

Really happy with the Whish. Have a very noisy neighbour downstairs and is the first time using it I'm able to decent sleep. A very good variety of sounds. The quality is good for such a small speaker. Some sounds are louder than others on the same volume setting so you have to experiment. My only criticism is that I would have preferred the volume to be more sensitive rather than preset volumes. Some sounds are too loud on one setting and too soft on the next so more control of that would be perfect. But overall it does what I expected it to do. I bought the machine for the sound of rain. The steady rhythm of rain has always been a comforting sleep-inducing sound since childhood. Unfortunately, the machine delivers rain in 'waves' instead of a steady patter. My brain finds this annoying instead of calming. Maybe it's is just my brain? Great for babies rooms for sleep. The best part is on this model there are no batteries to replace. And the best part is there is a timer function but we needed it to play continuously through the night with no breaks in the loop which some apps and white noise tracks do which can cause a pause to wake them. We are using it for our newborn and she is sleeping much better since having it. We are enjoying the white noise so much we will have to buy another marpac whish when she moves out of our room. So many sound options as well. I also really like that it looks nice on the bedside table.

I bought 3 Whish to counteract the noise from a nearby nightclub. My partner tried one at home and ordered 2 more. We demonstrated our Whish for a neighbour who has difficulty sleeping due to a medical problem and she ordered one immediately as she was so impressed.
Working off mains power means that the machine can be used all night without running down batteries. The controls are simple. The choice of tunes is perfect.
