Great white noise maker!
This is an excellent white noise maker. I actually had the same one when I lived in the US. The only downside is the Australian version (since it runs on different voltage) doesn't actually have two settings but it's not that big of a deal, really. It does the job!

Great product, sleeping very well now...
I got a little confused researching white noise machines so called Sleep Solutions for some advice. I was trying to block traffic noise and my loud pet cat that yells from 5am onwards. I went with the Marpac Yogasleep Dohm 240V which was more slightly more expensive than other options that have recorded sounds on loop, well worth the investment. The Yogasleep is fan-based which gives a natural air sound (like a ceiling fan) without the disturbance of actual moving air, it has heaps of adjustability of tone and volume and it plugs in to the mains power. My baby was a terrible sleeper. The Marpac dohm solved the problem.
One of the best products I have ever bought in my entire life, no exaggerating.

We live on a busy street and this muffles that noise, it is exactly what I expected and I could not be happier with it.
First time turning on it could seem loud, try for two nights and I think you will be more than happy.
Try a timer so that it turns of after a few hours if worried about waking you after a deep sleep..

This machine is brilliant. I personally don't wont to hear Orca wales or rainforest birds, but pure white noise. This machine has such a broad range of adjustment you have to be able to find a frequency range and noise level that fits the bill. Nothing less than 5 Stars. Effectively reduced the noise of loud talking from the adjoining apartment.
We found the white noise from the Marpac Dohm DS 240V did not prevent us from sleeping as we thought it might do.
The Machine was placed near the wall of the adjoining apartment in our bedroom and the late night, loud talking of our neighbors was reduced effectively enough for us to sleep through the night undisturbed.

I love my Sleepmate
Highly recommend. This is my second Sleepmate white noise machine, replacing one purchased some 12+ years ago. I first tried replacing it with an electronic white noise machine however prefer the mechanical wooshing sounds. Living in an apartment and find it useful for blocking outside night time noises especially neighbours coming home late at night. I appreciate white noise machines don't suit/work for everyone however suggest for those starting out to to give it a go it can take a week or more to get used to.

Good and solid but the volume is nowhere near loud enough
It mentioned in it's sale pitch that was useful for snorers the volume in only two levels and is nowhere near loud enough to drown out snoring or road noises for the matter. It was quite expensive so I'm fairly disappointed.

This product does not work for me, unfortunately.
I was after a device that makes a nice, soothing sound. It was to replace fans that I used for many years to relax me and help me get to sleep. The modern fans are much more noisy now, so I thought the SleepMate would be a good alternative.
Unfortunately I don’t find its sounds relaxing, it keeps me awake. I don’t fortunately need anything to block out extraneous sounds.
I will add that I have just purchased, for nearly $400, one of those expensive fans without blades, so you can see I am serious about the right background sounds while I sleep.
I will say that your company were incredibly quick about delivering the product to me. It was only two days, and I live in a regional South Australian town. (Posted on )

Does what it says
I received this in the post within a few days of ordering. I originally thought this machine was too loud but with the three different methods of adjustment I was pleasantly surprised. A cheap fan will achieve better results for blocking noise than this unit. Can get much better results by having a cheap fan next to your bed as its much louder than the unit itself.. face fan away if too cold and you're winning. Not worth the money at all.

Better than a fan
We used to run a fan all year to drown out our naughty cat, who tries to break into the bedroom at night because she's bored. It's not quite loud enough to drown out her miaows, but at least we're no longer sleeping in a wind tunnel! I would definitely recommend this product.

Why did we wait so long!!...
We had been considering getting a noise machine for about 1.5 years, but instead continued using a fan - what a mistake!.... The noise machine has such a lovely "hum" to it and doesn't blow dust or breeze around the room, which is good in the middle of winter!... small footprint and so many different levels of sound from the machine using the casing. Absolutely love it, thinking of getting another one for the spare room.

Definitely worth trying
Unfortunately I bought the Marpac originally through Amazon and it had the US endings. I bought a converter and the machine caught fire because the machine can only take 120 V and Australian outlets provide double.

Best purchase
Bought two, one for each of my twin's rooms as they bad sleepers and wake each other up. In a small house, it has helped with drowning out everyday house noises, including the other twin waking, people visiting, dog barking etc. I especially like the many sound options and being able to make quieter at night or louder if more noise going on. It's also portable and easy to pack when going away. I've had no complaints with this product.

The answer to my dreams. Previously a nightmare, finally serenity and reliable good sleep.
I was a very light sleeper and any sound no matter how slight would keep me awake, leaving me deprived and wanting a good nights sleep. The SleepMate has finally resolved my need for sound sleep. My first experience with this unit was while on a holiday in the USA and the hotel room had this unit as part of the fittings, being curious to try anything once I found this unit actually worked fantastically. Love this machine!
My daughters both have these in their bedrooms and have had for ten years plus...I highly recommend these machines for light sleepers. It works
The mechanical 'white' noise generator works for me really well. I have tried electronic white noise generators but this sounds like an aircon or fan so its more 'natural'. I will be buying another for work. The only thing is that when the switch is in position 2 it does not seem to be very different to the sound of position 1. But still highly recommended.

Very useful for privacy in an office environment

It does what it says
The reviews of this product said that it does only one thing but does it very well, and it does. Other products had better features and looked nicer but this had the best rating for noise cancellation. For me, it blocks out about 90% of the external noise. I can't hear the TV in the lounge or the construction outside, only the occasional revving car or motorbike. It takes a while to adjust to the sound of the unit but, after that, it's so easy to get to sleep. I'm so glad that I bought this.

Wish I'd known about it sooner - great for travellers
Having used a small fan for many years I was finally ready to try one of these to save room in my suitcase as a frequent traveler. I've now ditched the fan completely as this makes a much more relaxing noise. I found it a bit rattley when first switched it on but I let it run for a while and now it is perfect. Ordered the sleep machine based on all the positive reviews. I find it blocks some traffic noise not all, as it is loud itself. I cant say it has improved my sleep dramatically as i generally will wake up and turn it off as it ends up being a very annoying sound. Lifesaver
I've been meaning to write a review on this in a while! This has been a lifesaver, I have always been a light sleeper and wore ear plugs for years. I started to get tinnitus (ringing ears) from wearing the ear plugs but couldn't give them up either so wasn't sleeping well at all! Ever since I got this sound machine I've weened off ear plugs to just wearing cotton buds and I've found I go to sleep a lot quicker and have had the best sleep in years. Highly recommend

Wonderful when put by the window
I have had great success with this machine by putting it on the desk in front of the window where the sound comes in to my bedroom. There has been so much more traffic where I live and this helps me to get a good night's sleep while being able to hear birdsong in the morning, yet most traffic sounds are blocked out enough to help me sleep. Wish I'd bought it earlier!
I am a chronic insomniac (struggle getting to sleep, not staying asleep) and my bedroom window also happens to face a busy road. Decided to try the Dohm after a particularly bad few months and WOW - all I can say is I wish I bought one earlier. I've found it much more effective than the white noise CDs I've tried in the past and it's loud enough to mask almost all of the traffic noise (not quite sirens). I like how you can adjust the volume too. And best of all, I no longer have to freeze in the middle of winter with a fan on! Even considering taking it overseas with me on an upcoming holiday.

Great for my baby and toddler
I bought this product because my 2-year-old son and 3-month-old daughter share a bedroom. I wanted something to cancel out the noises they each make that might disturb the other. During the warmer months we used the ceiling fan but it is too cold for that now.
I am really happy with our Marpac Sleep Mate. It does the job really well as both of our kids sleep soundly all night. It is also great for their daytime sleeps as it is perfect for cancelling out disturbing daytime sounds such as dogs barking, traffic, the tv, me moving around the house doing chores etc.

Happy with this product
Had a unit now for 2 weeks and am finally getting a sleep-in. The 6.30am dog alarm next door has been pretty well blocked out. Like most people I had been using a fan for years, but too cold in winter. I live near a busy main road with lots of trucks at night, and I don't hear them anymore. Only worry is I won't hear someone breaking into the house!! I wonder if one can become addicted to these machines and have to take them on holidays etc. It has lived up to expectations, although rather expensive, and delivery was very prompt.

Does the job!
I purchased this machine to help out with my recent onset of tinnitus. I already was using rain sounds on my Ipod to help me get to sleep, but there are times when my tinnitus is even louder and I need an extra sound to help drown it out. The unit gives me the extra oomph needed on bad nights. It is certainly loud enough for me, and doesn't bother my husband - in fact, on the nights he goes to bed early he now wants it on to drown out the kids being noisy! You will NEVER defeat my wife's snoring!
My wife started snoring some 15 years ago. I put up with it for the first 2-3 years. I offered to pay for an operation to stop the 'motor' like noise coming out of her breathing passages. She refused and suggested I get ear plugs. I tried many different types. The ones i have now have proven to be the best at reducing the 'snore machine' by about 80%. The problem with wearing earplugs for so many years is that it has started to irritate my outer ear canal. I needed to find a device to help me make the transition away from the ear plugs. Reading the reviews I was hoping the SleepMate would be the answer. The SleepMate makes a loud(ish) blowing noise (similar to the background humming sound when you hear when you are in an airplane). First night i tried the unit, my wife (ironically) complained that it was too noisy, which i heard loud & clear, so i switched it off. 2nd attempt when she hadn't come to bed yet - I found it blocked outside noises (cars, dogs, sirens etc.) well but not he slamming doors and arguing kids inside the house. I tried again this morning while my wife was in deep sleep and SNORING and realised the old earplugs had to be inserted to enure complete block out (probably 95% block out). Good concept - but i reckon you need something like the noise cancelling concept (a fan comes close by making the air vibrate as well as the hum of the motor). Unfortunately this is not quite as good as had hoped.

Bought two. One rattles and the other stopped working
Whilst they definitely work for the little ones, we were disappointed that one stopped working and the other has always had a rattle to it. Our $9 fans from Bunnings have outlasted these, although to be fair they get used about 12 hours a day. And we probably should have sent the rattly one back while it was still under warranty and despite the rattle its still working after nearly two years. So I'm giving them an average rating. For the price they should be bullet proof.

Not quiet enough at all !
I found that it doesnt block dogs barking or even the TV in next room, it sits on my beside table and only if I sit the thing on the mattress next to my ear does it drown anything out, it needs to be louder, it has had no impact at all back to using my fan

Good but takes time to get used to
I've had mixed sleeping nights with the unit on, some were straight sleeps, some were interrupted.
Now I mainly use it for short naps or to drown out the background noise. It doesn't completely block the outside noise like I expected, instead it just provides a constant white noise to focus on which makes external noise tolerable.
From day 1 my machine has been rattling a bit, unsure why, it's liveable but obviously not ideal since I paid close to $100 for such an item. (Posted on )

No rattles like with a fan after many nights of use
Very reliable and consistent little unit and so much better than a fan. But could be a little quieter even on the lowest setting.

Far exceeded my expectations!
I highly recommend this product for anyone who wants some help falling asleep and masking unwanted noises. This is really the best thing I have bought for my health and sanity in a long time! It really does a great job and has far exceeded my expectations with its effectiveness.

So much better than a fan!
Very happy with the unit. Have been using a fan to mask noise for years, but fans tend to develop rattles and are not so great in winter. The sleepmate delivers what is advertised. Very happy with purchase.
